Story of Mimi

Story of Mimi

In the making…

We decided to ‘open the doors’, even though Mimi is still in the making. The reason for this is that we want to share the story that you will become a part of, as you come and live some life here.

When the stewardship of this land was taken on by Maria and Sarah in 2006, a planning permission was also handed over.  Standing on the plot known locally as ‘Mimi’ (hence the name as the building is now part of the land), with wild thyme underfoot and the strong smell of sage, we wondered if a building belonged here?  We were not sure, so we decided to wait and listen.

In May 2011, three months before the permission was to expire, friends confirmed what we had been picking up – build the foundations!  The Build stayed in its skeleton form until the spring of 2023, when Maria felt it was the right timing to move onwards.  Finally in 2024, the Build began to take a new shape.  Lovingly created by local crafts people, mainly from Promyri, the walls appeared, internally and externally, the electrics, plumbing, plastering, and even windows were put in.  Mimi is now a part of the landscape, a new landmark.

And now as we turn the corner, from building to beautifying, we are so excited that we are already sharing its potential and inviting others to come and enjoy the love that is woven into the place, not to mention the thyme, sage, olive trees, and other scratchy things – as well as the amazing view of the Aegean Sea.
