How to get to Axladitsa

Travelling to Axladitsa involves several steps and we invite you to see your pathway of arriving and departing as part of your overall journey/pilgrimage, and as a way of getting to know Greece/Ellada a little more!

In general, our visitors fly in to one of the main airports, take the bus to Volos which is closest big city to us, then a second bus to the village of Platania where will will come and pick you up and take you to your Kastri accommodation or to Axladitsa!

Flying in:

Skiathos Airport, on the island of Skiathos is the closest airport to Axladitsa. You will take a taxi to Koukounaries Beach and catch a water taxi from there to Kati Giorgi, a village close to Axladitsa. We will come and pick you up from there.

Volos Airport half an hour away from the city of Volos where you can rent a car and drive to Axladitsa (2 hours) or you can take the shuttle bus from the airport to Volos Bus Station and take a taxi or local bus to Platanias or Argalasti

Thessalonki Airport is the closest in the north of Greece. You can either rent a car and drive to Axladitsa (3 hours) or take a bus to Volos (you can purchase a ticket online) and then a taxi or another local bus to Platanias or Argalasti

Athens Airport in the south of the Greece. You can either rent a car and drive to Axladitsa (4.5-5 hours) or take a bus to Volos (you can purchase a ticket online) and then a taxi or another local bus to Platanias or Argalasti.

When planning your trip, you need to allow plenty of time. If you wish to arrive at Axladitsa on the evening of your day of travel, you will need to arrive no later than 12:00 pm in Thessaloniki or 8.00 am in Athens. Alternatively you may wish to arrive in Greece one or two days early and visit other places. There are two good youth hostels that we would recommend as well.

We can book taxi pickups from Volos to Axladitsa (70-75 euros) and also water taxi picks up from Skiathos (price depends on number of passengers).

Slow Travel

You can drive to Greece either through Austria and the Balkans or through Italy and take a ferry across to Igoumenitsa, Epirus and then across to Volos and the Pelion peninsula.

You can also take a train to Ancona or Venice and then a ferry to Igoumenitsa, Epirus and take a bus to Volos and then a taxi or another local bus to Platanias or Argalasti.
